Almost every “get healthy” and “weight loss” posting you study will tell you to skip the drive through and make all of your meals yourself. This is actually very good guidance. But sometimes the last thing you wish to do is put together a whole dinner for yourself and your family. Once in a while you only want to pay a visit to the drive through while you are on your way home and finish the day. There is simply no reason that you shouldn’t be able to do this once in a while and be free of the guilt usually associated with “diet slips”. This is because a lot of the popular fast food restaurants out there are trying to “healthy up” their menus. Here is how to eat healthy and balanced when you visit the drive through.

Visit a drive through in a place which has made it a practice to provide healthier options to people. For instance, Arby’s doesn’t offer hamburgers. Instead, your options include things like roast beef and chicken sandwiches, wraps and big salads. Wendy’s, not surprisingly, is known for its square burgers, nevertheless the menu there has lots of healthful choices like salad, potatoes and chili. Not everything is McDonalds with its deep fried chicken parts as well as other terribly unfit items.

Traditional logic tells us that one sure way to get healthy and lose fat is to by pass the drive through and to banish fast food restaurants from your thoughts. While, for the most part, this is a good idea, if you make intelligent choices, there is no reason to feel guilty for visiting a drive through one or two times a month. Sometimes the thing you need is to let another person produce your dinner. When you want wholesome menu items, you do not have to feel terrible about visiting the drive through.

Steps to make Mocha Hazelnut Roll:
  1. I used a bread machine to kneed/proof the dough. If you're also using one, add all the dough ingredients in the order listed to bread machine. Then, run on the small dough setting. If you're doing it by hand, mix/kneed the ingredients for 10-15 minutes. Then, cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise for 90 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  3. After rising, the dough will still be fairly sticky. Dust a flat surface with additional 1/2 cup of flour and place dough from bread machine onto it. Using a floured rolling pin, roll out to a roughly 12x8-inch rectangle.
  4. Add Jif spread to a small bowl and soften by stirring liberally. Pour spread across entire center of dough rectangle. Leave only about 1 inch of empty space on each side. NOTE: Spread will not cover every bit of the inside. Do not spread too hard or it will tear through the dough.
  5. Starting with the 12-inch side closest to you, roll the dough tightly until a log is formed. Gently place the log in a baking dish and form into a ring shape.
  6. Using your fingers, dampen the top of the entire ring with water and dust with 3 tbsp of sugar.
  7. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until a golden brown crust has formed. Allow to rest/cool for 30 minutes before serving.
