The ingredients needed to prepare Beef and Bacon hot-pot:
- Use 500 grams minced beef
- Get 250 grams bacon
- Use 1 onion, chopped
- Take 2 can chopped tomatoes
- Use 2 tsp sugar
- Prepare 1 beef stock cube
- Get 2 tbsp tomato puree
- Use 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- You need 1/2 tsp mixed herbs
- Prepare to taste salt & pepper
- Provide 500 grams potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- Get 1 tbsp melted butter or olve oil
Steps to make Beef and Bacon hot-pot:
- Remove rind from bacon and fry without browning, remove from pan and cut into 1 inch pieces
- Add onion to pan and fry until transparent
- Add beef and fry until cooked, return bacon to pan
- Add the tomatoes, sugar, salt and pepper, worcestershire sauce, herbs and stock cube, bring to boil, then simmer for 15-20 minutes. (The sugar helps remove the acidity from the tomatoes and is optional.)
- Heat oven to 180C. Place half of the meat mixture into an ovenproof casserole.
- Arrange half of the potatoes over the top
- Carefully add remaining meat mixture
- Arrange remaining potatoes on top,season with salt and pepper, sprinkle with melted butter or olive oil
- Place in oven, no lid, for 1 hour until potatoes are cooked and golden brown
- Serve with peas or green beans
